  • Easily identified as it flies away due to its striking white rump
     
  • About 15cm long
     
  • The male has black cheeks, a white eye stripe and a grey crown
     
  • Both sexes have cream underparts
     

Where found

Treeless, open countryside – moors, heaths, dunes or grasslands. Nests are often built under rocks or in rabbit burrows.
 

When to look for

A summer visitor – late March onwards.
