CLUB challenge

Friday 9th December

Only two more weeks until Christmas!

Have you started to write your
cards and wrap gifts?

There are only a few days left to post parcels,
So we've come up with some great ideas for
hand made Christmas cards and wrapping paper :O)

This week your challenge is to: Dazzle your loved ones with hand made cards and gift wrap.

If you go down to the woods today...

Find out what's happening in nature by printing our top spots for this week :O)

You can also find out what wildlife to keep an eye out for, and what's gone away for another year.

Season's greetings

People love to receive hand-made Christmas cards. They also love to make them!

Here's a template to print and decorate:

Scratch art

Turn your Christmas card into a scratch art masterpiece!

  • use coloured pencils to draw
    a colourful pattern on the
scratch art christmas baublefront of your Christmas card
    template
  • then colour over your picture
    with a wax crayon (black
    usually works best to
    completely cover what's
    underneath)
  • finally, use a pen lid or a
    spoon handle to scratch a
    design into the wax crayon
    - as you scratch away the
    pattern underneath will be
    revealed creating a really cool
    picture

You could even leave it blank and let the person you're giving the card to create their own design.

Thanks to work experience student Katie Nott for creating this brilliant festive example of scratch art :O)

Winter photos from the Woodland Trust's picture library

Capture a winter scene

How will you decorate your
Christmas card?

  • with a photo
  • draw a picture
  • paint a landscape
  • make a collage

You could even collect fallen pine needles, glue them onto the template then sprinkle a little bit of glitter on top to make it more Christmassy :O)

Let it snow!

Have you got snow where you live?

There are lots of ways to add a snowy, festive feel to your Christmas card:

  • add texture with fluffy cotton wool - it looks like a blanket of snow!
  • use glitter for an icy, frosty effect
  • for a light dusting of snow try icing sugar :O)
