Acorns to Ancients
Did you know that big, fat, old oak
trees were once tiny acorns?
Our friends at the Ancient Tree Hunt want you
to create 'family trees' - new trees grown from the
seeds of ancient trees (if you can't find an ancient
tree, just use the biggest tree where you live).
Your challenge this week is to collect and plant some acorns -
in hundreds of years they could be huge ancient oak trees...
Bag
Make a special ancient seed collecting bag to keep your acorns in

Find a tree
Log onto the Ancient Tree Hunt website to find your
nearest ancient trees
Why pick an ancient tree?
Because they have proved they can live a long time.
Why does it have to be local?
Local trees are already used to your weather and soil. This means there's a better chance your acorn will grow up into a healthy tree.
how many acorns did you collect?
Ready, steady, plant!

Can you help others plant seeds too?

Label your seeds
Here's a label that Bottesford Brownies used for their ancient acorns:
Make your own, stick them on twigs, straws or lillipop sticks

did you make a label?
Tree-mendous!
Watch your pot carefully to see a
shoot emerge and a sapling grow.
Try planting other seeds too, like
beech and ash seeds.
