Fish sticker

This weekend it looks like the weather
could be a really mixed bag of sun and rain.
So here are some things to do inside and outside:

PLAY

Playing in small streams is great fun.

I like building dams, racing rubber ducks and spotting fish.

There are loads of things you can do, but it's important to be sensible:

  • wear something on your feet
  • don't go in deep bits
  • be careful not to fall in from the bank

When I was little I was always with my older brother and we always told mum or dad where we were going.

  • Ask them before you go near water
(including your own pond, if you've got one).

  • They probably won't stop you playing, but they will be there to help you if you get stuck (or if you need someone to beat in a boat race heehee!)

If you don't live near a stream or can't get outside, you can do a lot of these in the sink or bath (though you won't see any fish in your bath).

Have fun and be careful,

Shaun  :O)

MAKE A BOAT

There are lots of ways to make a boat:

Have a go at making these different boats. The reed boat could be made with a long paper craft straw if you can't get hold of a reed.

Can you re-use rubbish from home to make a boat?

Have a look at what goes in the recycling:

  • milk cartons
  • pop bottles
  • tissue boxes
  • plastic trays

Try make a boat out of these - it's great fun!

DECORATE

Cut out these flags and attach them to a stick or staw and tape them to your boats:

(These are also great for sandcastles if you're going to the beach this summer)

What else can you use to decorate your boats?

  • make your paper boat into a nature boat
  • camouflage it with leaves and flowers
  • colour it with crayons (this will also help to waterproof it)

Send a photo of your boat to nature detectives.

RACES

Use the flags to put your boats into teams, then get racing!

  • Which type of boat will go the furthest?
  • Which will be the fastest?
  • Will any of them sink?!
  • Race your boats to find out which is the best and let us know.

No boat? Try playing Poohsticks!

Poohsticks is a game invented by Winnie-the-Pooh in the book The House at Pooh Corner by A A Milne.

To play, you need to find a bridge over a river or stream.

Each player drops a stick into the river, from the upstream side of the bridge.

The winner is the person who's stick comes out of the other side of the bridge first (the trick is to drop your stick into the fastest-flowing part of the river!)

Put the fish sticker on your CLUB challenge poster when you're done
